What 'free speech' is and is not
April 13th 2007 22:24
I must have made this point a thousand times, but free speech means speech free of government consequences, not of any consequences. Don Imus' firing may or may not have been overkill, but it trampled on neither his rights nor the principle of free expression. He has a right to say what he wants, not to demand that other people give him a forum.

This is the truth in a nutshell! I think many forget it.
I can always remember one of my teachers saying that young ladies should never [ever] talk about sex, race, politics and religion...[Even as Art?] I remember thinking then he was not quite right in the head *lol* but over time I have come to realise that if you don't want a forum, then don't talk about them...but it's glaring hypocrisy that gets me...
...so, on reflection, one wonders if the profits from Snoop Dog's equally offensive and demeaning lyrics - some $1.3 million which was donated by David Geffin - will also be returned by Senator Obama?
Great post!
