Glen Beck arrives on the scene. Is he for real or should we look for another
Glen Beck, conservative talk show host and FOX TV commentator, confronts both the liberal and conservative establishent with a new brand of beliefs and understanding of our times.
In the era of branding everything by name, it is difficult to come up with a branding of his efforts. He concentrates on the founding fathers and the part religion played in the formation of our American society. He likes to glorify the beginning of our nation and for me, he sometimes is more subjective than objective in his glorification of our founding fathers. He is right about the Constitution flowing from the Magna Carta which flowed from Christian scriptures. Still liberals try to adjust the origins according to their own subjective belief systems. A multitude of Christian ministers supported and many were actively part of the American revolution. The east coast mercantile establishment wanted to keep things as they were. There can be a good argument made that religion played a bigger role in our war for independence than the secular.

Naturalism short circuits reality Link and
Selective Liberalism affecting our society in modern times. Education in America was based on independent and Christian schools for about the first one hundred years of our country.
Then came John Dewey and his belief system still exists in our state schools and even affects our Catholic colleges. He said a children are born naturally good and it is society that messes them up. This evolved into a liberalism where you have to be against some wrong to do something good.
Anyone with some logic, knows that there is something missing in human nature which makes us at odds even within ourselves at times and we know that human nature needs some guidance throughout society . Peter Maurin, a founder of the Catholic Workers movement says if Capitalism and the money changers know best how to accomodate human nature then we need more policemen and less priests. If we pursue, human dignity in the workday, we need less policemen.
For me the workday is the centerpiece for any idealogy since it is where we spend most of our time and efforts. I worked at several factories while going to college. I minored in philosophy and found a vast void between the two. For me the whole essence of any society is the value of work and workers. The prime goal should be perfecting human dignity in the workday. Everything else will follow. And there is indeed a civil rights violation in most Communication being conducted by rank It is obvious that workers have no voice in the process of globalization and free trade. We do not need any conspiracy theories to know that free trade and globalization have been driven by elite powerful forces outside the will of the people with people like President Bill Clinton - a liberal, who passed the NAFTA and GATT free trade agreements. hold this action as a radical violation of civil rights in the workday.
Adam Smith held workers as something sacred the core of all society. In our times free trade and globalization came and degraded the value of work and workers in many ways. And human nature is not at its best when people shop for the cheapest price no matter what happens along the way. The money changers took control and our economies based on making money on money instead of making things took over. Now the money changers have failed and had to be bailed out while a vast middle class has been replaced by a massive working poor class. And Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exposed a vast underclass that no one to talk about.
I like many of the things Glen Beck is doing but as long as he ignores the devaluation of workers and work in our country and across the globe, for me he is still not with it.
The major cause behind the failures in our economy and culture is being out of sync with human dignity in the workday and both liberals and conservatives have played a big part in betraying something good for something bad. The Sophists of old liked to set their belief systems on useful goods. An idealist trys to make sure any useful good is an ultimate good too. A useful good can be intrinsically evil like abortion is.
Glen Beck is right about being for the right to life for all and our Constitution agrees with him.
Glen Beck's Washington DC rally was a success because he hit home about what real civil rghts are all about. He has had Dr. Alveda King, Dr King's niece on his program more than once and she too is a light shinning of a mountain top claiming the right for life for all as being a real civil right. She stood side by side with Glen Beck. This is the first order of business following Dr King's mountain top message, but we need to hear more about the basic civil right to work and being able to offer that work up to our creator without taking advantage of one another. The first question that Glen Beck should ask at the beginning of every program is this -
Who said we had to compete like this with one another for the same jobs in a global economic arena. As long as he leaves this part out , I will wonder about his core values across the board.
