Rush Limbaugh thrashes human dignity and the common good
February 2nd 2009 22:07
This continues Ray Tapajna 's article from Rush Limbaugh Could have saved the world - untold story behind our 2009 economic crisis
From his bully pulpit from his top daily broadcast, Rush Limbaugh said in 1993, I do not care if a 64 year old loses his job - Free Trade is a must!
We tend to forget what a powerful influence, Rush Limbaugh was during the Clinton years when he played a major role in getting the new "Contract with America" Republicans elected to Congress and taking control of it in 1994.
The letter below as published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and was a response to Rush Limbaugh ardent call for the passing of the unfair trade agreements in NAFTA and GATT.
Many conservatives like myself were shocked that he would be for something that defiled human dignity in the work day.
Limbaugh played an major role in getting the new "Contract with America" Republicans elected to Congress and they took over the control of this body in 1994. The "Contract with America" Republicans paid a tribute to Limbaugh for this part in the big win. There was nothing in the Contract about Free Trade and so it was surprising when Gingrich and Limbaugh became so vocal in getting NAFTA and GATT passed that was rushed through Congress by President Clinton in a lameduck session of Congress before the new Republicans were to take over in January 1994 while the Democrats still had a majority control. President Clinton called Congress back from their Thanksgiving vacation in 1993 in order to pass GATT. It seemed like he had marching orders from somewhere to get the job done. Rush Limbaugh seemed to have had the same marching orders in his strong sales pitches to get both NAFTA and GATT. The air waves were filled with his rants about the wonders of Free Trade as he locked hands with President Clinton. Limbaugh lost his composure one day and on his program he loudly pronounced that he did not care if a 64 year old worker would lose his job - Free Trade was a must!
Thus he joined President Clinton, Senator Dole and Rep. Gingrich in a powerful drive to consummate Free Trade. They changed the world forever and paved the way for our economic crisis we are suffering today in 2009.
It trashed human dignity in the workplace with workers becoming the real commodities being traded based on the lowest levels of wage slave and even child labor.
At his point in time, I has witnessed the terrible destruction Free Trade brought to America. More than a million workers lost their jobs and thousands of businesses in the computer industry folded. I made the mistake of fighting for the last PC computers made in the USA and many of the last industrial computers made in the USA. During this destruction of the U.S. computer industry, I had PC computers assembled under my own label with as many American components as possible, but this effort was futile with most of all the American parts makers giving up.
I witnessed thousands of computer dealers and system houses go out of business in only a tri-state area. I was with the main innovator of disk storage worldwide. This company also started about 30 other companies in similar endeavors. However, the President of our company chose to fight Free Trade to the end and lost. One of the start up companies took off by themselves with a CEO that did not care about keeping jobs in the USA. His company became the largest hard disk manufacturer in the world employing only 10,000 workers in the USA compared to about 90,000 outside of the USA. This company came and went leaving burn out communities behind worst off than before they came. Today, this company has cut about 50 percent of its workforce. This was a typical example in Free Trade ventures. It is obvious that happenings like this are behind the terrible economic crisis we have today. At one time, I had supplied China with calibration, diagnostic and other devices to get them going in high tech. We were on the verge of selling many vintage mainframe computers to them. Instead Free Trade came and President Clinton gave away our industry to the Chinese and called it Free Trade. The common good and human dignity was degraded in both countries. At one time, reportedly, one third of all micro computers being imported into China had to be smuggled in.

Now we have Rush Limbaugh wishing President Obama will fail - and he will fail if he ignores the stories behind Free Trade. I am afraid that President Obama is under the same marching orders as the above. He talks around things like NAFTA and GATT but never exposes them as a cause of our economic storms.
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said it all when he told Congress the best way to stimulate the economy is to buy "domestically produced goods" indicating that only local value added economies work. Economies based on making money on money instead of making things do not.
Conservative Populists betrayed....
(The following published 1994 letter by Ray Tapajna still applys. The passing of NAFTA and GATT betrayed the American workers and now we have over a ten year history of Free Trade failures )
FROM THE DIVINE TO THE DEFICIT_______From 1994
Can Gingrich and the Republicans keep their promises- and should they?
By Ray Tapajna, Cleve Plain Dealer 12/11/94
As a Conservative, I apologize to the American worker (for Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh (Limbaugh was instrumental in the elections of the new Contract with America Republicans.) Soon they will be promising a chicken for every pot and telling us to be happy. Maybe Gingrich will add it to the "contract".
What they don't understand is that many of us came out of the woodwork (to vote) because the option of being "Clintonized" was too much to handle. We were against the new GATT because we were against the old GATT that exported our jobs and industries. Anyone who has dealth with this end of things knows that our American idea if fair play doesn't happen in many foreign countries.Anyone who has been on either side of a strike line knows nothing gets resolved by moving the jobs outside the USA. It seem both Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh have a problem in defining what human dignity is all about
Those who feel Limbaugh betrayed them by hiding his real feelings about the GATT trade agreement until after the election should drop a note to his sponsors and the radiio station to tell them to boycott their products. Then we conservatives would like to reach out to the workers of America and offer an alliance of solidarity until this terrible "Big Money" thing stops stealing the Ameriacn Dream from us. In the meantime, the Republicans can stuff their 'Contract with America'. GATT should have been part of it.
(President Clinton and a Democrat controlled Congress passed both NAFTA and GATT. GATT was passed in a Lameduck session even though the Republicans had won the House- Clinton joined hands with Dole and Gingrich Republicans in betraying the American workers.-- President Bush followed in 2000 and passed Fast Track which in effect made the Executive Branch of the US , the new CEO of the world economy .-- This had no basis in our Constitution or history.)
