History of Free Trade Failures Link

Our political leaders, the news media and editorial staffs have talked about this or that in restoring our economy without ever mentioning the local value added economies we once enjoyed.

Our city was once a center of high technology mixed with major international corporate headquarters and vibrant with local business activity. All this faded away as free trade invaded our land and crushed local value added economies.

The political and news media keep talking about restoring our cities but no one seems to want to talk about what really caused the mess.

The editorial staff at our only major newspaper left in town endorsed the latest trade deal. At the same time they call for new ways to fix a dying city.
For more than ten years they call out for new high technology never telling anyone where the high technology we once enjoyed went. Then they endorsed the building of new buildings and stadiums. The taxpayers funded the entire bill for a new baseball stadium, a new football stadium, a new arena, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and now a new convention center is due plus a medical mart that is being funded by a hike in the sales tax. The city now is using taxpayers money to fund new gambling casinos

No one says Just stop it.

Now they are back to do something about education. Education has failed to trigger recovery and no one really ask why. They do keep saying it will take a generation of change to accomplish anything but they have been saying the same thing for about a generation up to this point in time.

The major newspaper and politicians do keep endorsing free trade. They usually tell us that this or that trade deal will create new jobs. The new jobs never come. Government programs funding new "green industries", are failing.
Governments are funding the research and development but the manufacturing phase is going to other countries. At the same time, engineers are coming from other lands to streamline the methods.

A typical example is a manufacturer who stop building industrial machines in our region. A foreign corporation who purchased them years ago closed production and turned the factory into a large distribution center for the machines now coming from Europe. At the same time, they bring in engineering contractors from India to manage the methods. The former workers are jobless or most likely wandering from job to job trying to find their place in the economy.

All this is happening, but no one says ,
Just Stop it ! Just stop free trade and restore our local value added economies we once had. The economic models are there. We can abstract what was bad and center on all the good.

Free trade came and stole the free enterprise system. This is what we should say and start all over again.

This editorial cartoon by Ray Tapajna was first published in 1994. President Bush was added in 2001, joining in the attack saying - it is nothing personal, it's only business. President Obama was added in 2009 after bailing out the money changer free traders who caused our economic crisis and put them back in charge of the "bombing".

Pearl Harbor Attack on Workers has lasted for almost a generation
