Abortion is not just another issue

A Professor of Systematic Theology at a Catholic Seminary classifys abortion as just another issue

What does a vote fore a candidate mean?
It refers to those who voted for President Obama. We responded with a letter to the Universe Bulletin but it was never published. We passed it to a Pro - Life advocacy group and commented about it too at the same link as noted above..
The first problem I had with Father's explanation about it being ok to vote for a Pro-Choice candidate because, abortion is only just one issue among many. I never understood abortion to be an issue at all. War is an issue. It is a very grave issue but it is not necessarily an intrinsic evil since the right to defend oneself is part of the natural law.
Abortion is not an issue it is an intrinsic evil. An intrinic evil is a stand alone evil. It is beyond the judgement call of a conscience. At our review of Pope Benedict's new Charity is truth encyclical, I go into it a bit further I noted that Cardinal Newman said that everyone must follow their conscience even it that conscience is ill informed- but, this does not include an intrinsic evil that is outside of any judgement call. The right to life is part of the natural law too. This too can not be described as just another issue.
Talking about abortion as a voting issue, is the same as saying the holocaust in Nazi Germany was only an issue and not an intrinsic evil for those who supported Hitler in one way or another. The intrinsic evil was in both the man and the action. It was not a separate entity. It certainly was not just an issue. Pope Benedict calls abortion a crime against society. Many bishops have called it the same thing as an intrinsic evil and not something left to any judgement call as to its real inherent nature.
Father Bednar's proportional ethics leaves the door open for people to cooperate with a grave intrinsic evil even by recognizing it as just another issue in a political campaign.
I found it impossible to vote for many Pro-life Republicans because they use abortion as an issue just to get elected and to establish a point of difference between themselves and their opposition. I have not voted for a major political party candidate for this reason and Father Bednar's analysis is centered on an either - or vote. This is locks out those who are really right to life according to the Constitution flowing from the natural law.
This right to life is not only related to the beginning of life but it affects many other "issues" along the way including one of my main advocacies - workers dignity. Even Adam Smith held labor and work as something sacred and the core of society and this is an issue of our times and could be classified as being related to the intrinsic evil of abortion and its obvious rejection of the right to life by a third party in the act of an abortion. The silent voices can not be heard but their obvious choice in the matter is life.
Abortion as just an issue, leaves the aborted alone in their ultimate sacrifice to an intrinsic evil.
